I spent some time on assignment in Cocke County, Tennessee with TOMS and their Giving Partner, Save the Children. Save the Children began working in Tennessee in 1933 to provide support to school children during the Great Depression. Since 2004, they’ve implemented their current, evidence-based education and health programming in the state.

One of their program areas is “Early Steps to School Success” — which is designed to assist children from birth to age five with language, social, and emotional development. The program also incorporates a training plan to equip parents with skills to successfully support their children’s growth. Components include home visits, book exchanges, and parenting groups.

These images were captured during a home visit. Both children are enrolled in the program.
